Nancy Hernandez
Interim Senior Director PDSO/ARO
Nancy has been in the field of international education for over 20 years. She advises international students and the university community on immigration issues and oversees the overall management of all programs and services for ISSS at the Biscayne Bay Campus. Prior to ISSS, Nancy worked at FIU’s Office of Admissions as Assistant Director of International Admissions. She was Assistant Director of International Admissions at Barry University prior to working at FIU. Nancy holds a Master of Education degree in Counseling and Personnel Service and a B.A. in Psychology and Spanish Literature from Fordham University. A member of NAFSA: Association of International Educators since 1987, she has presented multiple sessions at state, regional, and national conferences and workshops.

Ted Randall
Associate Director/DSO
Ted has been with FIU for more than 15 years. Ted completed his B.S. in Communication and M.A. in English at FIU. He has worked as an adjunct professor in the English Department, the Registrar’s Office as the Director of Veteran Services, and as the Certifying Officer for NCAA Compliance. He has been with ISSS for seven years advising international students on immigration, educational, and cultural issues.

Evelyn Rodriguez
Assistant Director/DSO/ARO
Evelyn started working with international students in 1999. She received her B.B.A. in Computer Programming and her A.A. in Marketing from the University of Puerto Rico. As Assistant Director and SEVIS Coordinator she helps to manage the SEVIS database for the Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions Offices and for the ISSS offices at both the MMC and BBC campuses. She is also responsible for the monitoring of student records in the university system and reporting student status to the Department of Homeland Security.

Ariel Ortiz
Assistant Director/DSO
Ariel has been in the field of Higher Education since 2007 with a professional background in international student services and career services. Originally from Dominican Republic, he grew up in New York City and earned a Master’s in College Student Personnel Administration from the Canisius College of Buffalo and a Bachelor’s in Computer Technology from the State University New York at Delhi. Ariel advises international students on immigration, social and cultural concerns, he develops and implements programming related to international students and he is Advisor to the International Student Club at BBC and the BBC International Peer Mentors. Ariel is actively involved with sports and music and he enjoys tennis, baseball and Latin dancing.

Claudia Biscardi
Claudia joined the ISSS team as an international student coordinator in December 2013. Claudia has over 10 years of experience working with international students at several universities. She provides immigration advising to students on an F1 and J1 visa and also develops, plans and coordinates all aspects of social, cultural and educational programs, seminars and events promoting intercultural communication and education among students and the community. Claudia serves as advisor to the International Student Club (ISC) at MMC as well as the International Peer Mentors.

Claudia received her B.S. Degree in Business Administration with a major in Marketing and a minor in Economics from Rockford University in 2000. While she was an undergraduate student, she worked at the International Student Office as an International Ambassador and won the Intercultural award for 2 consecutive years. In 2003 Claudia returned to Rockford University where she received her Master’s in Business Administration degree majoring in International Business. During this time she also worked in the Admissions Office as an International Student Recruiter for Rockford University and traveled to several countries. A native of Venezuela, she traveled to United States at a young age under the AFS exchange program and completed high school at Waukesha West, Wisconsin.

Jhonery Mendoza

Jhonery joined the ISSS team in February 2016 as Coordinator of Academic Support Services where she had previously been the SEVIS student assistant. She will complete a Master of Science in International and Intercultural Education from Florida International in May 2016. Jhonery holds a B.S. in Hospitality Management from Florida International University and an A.A. in Hospitality Administration Travel and Tourism from Miami Dade College. During her undergraduate career, Jhonery participated in two short-term study abroad programs that fueled her passion for international education.

In her current role, Jhonery supports the Assistant Director/SEVIS Coordinator by monitoring and managing students’ records in the university system and SEVIS database, and she also advises international students on immigration, social and cultural concerns. Jhonery was born in Venezuela and grew up in Miami. She has traveled throughout North America, South America and Europe, and she enjoys cultural diversity, cross-cultural experiences and interacting with people from diverse backgrounds.

Andre Dawson
Andre was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica and came to the United States to further his education, where he received his B.A. in Psychology from FIU. Andre oversees the International Student Club at BBC, and plans many social, cultural events and trips for International Students. As an FIU Alum Andre enjoys going to FIU events and games.

Ashley Phelps
Graduate Assistant
Ashley Phelps is a graduate student pursing a Master of Science in the Higher Education Administration. Ashley was born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida and recently graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences. She is the Graduate Assistant in the International Student & Scholar Services office at MMC. She primary helps develop, plan, and coordinate all programs that promote intercultural communication and education for the students and the FIU community. She is also the co advisor of the International Student Club and International Peer Mentors. Ashley is excited to work with the international students and help them foster their growth and development at FIU.

Harry Melo
Graduate Assistant
Harry Melo is a graduate student pursuing a Master of Science in Higher Education Administration. He is the graduate assistant in the International Student & Scholar Services office at the BBC campus. Born and raised in New York City, he received his Bachelor in Business Administration from Baruch College where he  was very involved with student clubs and organizations. Harry has served on numerous panels at conferences encouraging students to get involved in college and sharing his experience. He was the conference organizer for the 3rd National Dominican Student Conference and was involved with the Dominican community in New York City. Harry hopes to continue to work with students and develop them as leaders on their campuses to help make them successful in life.
