Executive Director, Global Mobility (ISSS and OEA)
Alejandra Parra is the Executive Director for the Office of FIU Global Mobility. This office houses the Office of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) and the Office of Education Abroad (OEA). In her role with ISSS, she oversees the operations of the ISSS at the Modesto Maidique and Biscayne Bay campuses; and she is an integral member of the FIU team that promotes and supports the university’s continuous efforts for comprehensive internationalization. Dr. Parra has been in the field of international education for over thirty years. Prior to joining the FIU ISSS, she held leadership positions at Nova Southeastern University (NSU), first as Assistant Director of the International Career Development Center at the Fischler College of Education, Associate Dean for International Affairs, and Associate Director for the Office of International Affairs.
Dr. Parra earned a B.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language and also in Translation and Interpretation from the Córdoba National University in Córdoba, Argentina; an M.A. in Teaching English as a Second or Other Language (TESOL) from the Monterey Institute of International Studies, CA; and an Ed.D. in Instructional Technology and Distance Education from Nova Southeastern University with dissertation work that focused on international cooperation in higher education. As an active member of international organizations, Dr. Parra has served as NAFSA Academy Coach, and she currently holds the position of Chair for the Florida Association of International Educators. Her hands-on experience with inbound and outbound mobility and direct participation in academic programs, program development and international education initiatives give Dr. Parra critical leadership skills needed as we broaden and deepen our campus internationalization efforts.
ISSS – MMC
Ted has been with FIU for more than 15 years. Ted completed his B.S. in Communication and M.A. in English at FIU. He has worked as an adjunct professor in the English Department, the Registrar’s Office as the Director of Veteran Services, and as the Certifying Officer for NCAA Compliance. He has been with ISSS for seven years advising international students on immigration, educational, and cultural issues.

Evelyn started working with international students in 1999. She received her A.A. in Marketing and her B.B.A. in Computer Programming from the University of Puerto Rico, and completed her Master’s Degree in International Business at FIU in Summer 2016. As Associate Director and SEVIS Coordinator she manages the SEVIS database for the Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions Offices and for the ISSS offices at both the MMC and BBC campuses. She is also responsible for the monitoring of student records in the university system and reporting student status to the Department of Homeland Security.
International Student Advisor and Events Coordinator/DSO/ARO

Claudia joined the ISSS team as an international student coordinator in December 2013. Claudia has over 10 years of experience working with international students at several universities. She provides immigration advising to students on an F1 and J1 visa and also develops, plans and coordinates all aspects of social, cultural and educational programs, seminars and events promoting intercultural communication and education among students and the community. Claudia serves as advisor to the International Student Club (ISC) at MMC as well as the International Peer Mentors.
Claudia received her B.S. Degree in Business Administration with a major in Marketing and a minor in Economics from Rockford University in 2000. While she was an undergraduate student, she worked at the International Student Office as an International Ambassador and won the Intercultural award for 2 consecutive years. In 2003 Claudia returned to Rockford University where she received her Master’s in Business Administration degree majoring in International Business. During this time she also worked in the Admissions Office as an International Student Recruiter for Rockford University and traveled to several countries. A native of Venezuela, she traveled to the United States at a young age under the AFS exchange program and completed high school at Waukesha West, Wisconsin.
International Student Advisor and ICEP Lead
Jhonery joined the ISSS team in February 2016 as Coordinator of Academic Support Services where she had previously been the SEVIS student assistant. She holds a M.S. in International and Intercultural Education and a B.S. in Hospitality Management from Florida International University. During her undergraduate career, Jhonery participated in two short-term study abroad programs that fueled her passion for international education.
In her current role, Jhonery supports the Associate Director/SEVIS Coordinator by monitoring and managing students’ records in the university system and SEVIS database, and she also advises international students on immigration, social and cultural concerns. Jhonery was born in Venezuela and grew up in Miami. She has traveled throughout North America, South America and Europe, and she enjoys cultural diversity, cross-cultural experiences and interacting with people from diverse backgrounds.

Alexandra has been working with international students since high school, traveling to western Europe and throughout North America. She loves meeting students from all over the world! She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the Evergreen State College in Washington State before moving to Miami in 2015. She monitors and manages students’ records in the university system and SEVIS database, and she also advises international students on immigration, social and cultural concerns.
Barbara has been with FIU for more than 19 years. Barbara completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Modern Languages at FIU. Previously, she worked at the Center for Diversity at the College of Engineering, and for the past nine years, she has been with ISSS assisting with the preparation of immigration documentation for J-1 visiting scholars.
Elaine was born and raised in Miami, Florida. She is an FIU Alumni and holds a B.B.A in Marketing. While she pursued her undergraduate degree, Elaine participated in the Honors College Study Abroad program in Spain. She has over 10 years of experience in the hospitality industry in luxury hotels and training in customer service excellence.
Elaine recently joined ISSS and is excited to work with international students and assisting them throughout their academic career at FIU.

Andre was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica and came to the United States to further his education, where he received his B.A. in Psychology from FIU. Andre oversees the International Student Club at BBC, and plans many social, cultural events and trips for International Students. As an FIU Alum Andre enjoys going to FIU events and games.
