F-1 Employment Resources
Students completing their programs in Spring 2017 who want to pursue Optional Practical Training (OPT) may apply starting February 1, 2017. You are encouraged to apply as soon as possible during the application period but prior to June 16, 2017.
You may apply up to 60 days after the end of the term, provided that you do not leave the U.S. after the end of the Fall term. Travel outside the U.S. during the 60-day grace period following program completion will make a student ineligible to return in F-1 status and apply for OPT; if it is necessary to travel during this time, the OPT application must be submitted before leaving and the OPT must be approved before returning to the US.
To reenter the US during OPT, the EAD card and employment letter are required.
Please remember to apply for graduation on “My FIU”.

NOTE: If your Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, has been pending more than 75 days, you may contact the National Customer Service Center (NCSC) at 1-800-375-5283 and ask that an Approaching Regulatory Timeframe “service request” be created. The NCSC will route the service request to the appropriate office for review. Please have your receipt number ready when contacting the NCSC.
