Laura E. Boudon, Ph.D., Director
Laura E. Boudon, Ph.D. ’00, is Director of the Office of Study Abroad at Florida International University and leads FIU’s efforts to increase the number of FIU students who study abroad and participate in our exchange program. Laura recently traveled to Cuba for FIU to learn about Cuban higher education and internationalization and is also participating in a multi-institutional research project with Elon University’s Center for Engaged Learning on Study Abroad and Global Learning. Laura serves as the campus representative for Boren scholarships and fellowships. Prior to her current position, Laura worked for the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine for more than four years, most recently as Associate Director for International Programs. She also served for several years as an Adjunct Faculty member in the School of Social Work. She has fifteen years of professional experience in higher education administration and has worked for Georgetown University, American University and the University of South Carolina before joining FIU in July 2009.
Laura has graduate degrees in International Relations and Social Work, having graduated from FIU with a Ph.D. in International Relations. Her dissertation focused on the international political economy of coffee and its impact on coffee producers and involved research in both Colombia and Côte d’Ivoire. Her professional interests include international education, student affairs, cultural competency, diversity, and global health. Laura is bilingual in English and French and speaks advanced Spanish. Laura grew up in France and has traveled extensively in Europe. She taught English for one year in Bogotá, Colombia with English First and spent one month in Senegal on internship and one month in Côte d’Ivoire doing dissertation research.
In her spare time, Laura enjoys travel, hiking, great food, photography and spending time with her family and friends.
Susy Gómez, Associate Director
Susy works primarily with students coming to FIU’s International Student Exchange program through our partner institutions. She also works with FIU faculty members throughout the program proposal process and with students going on FIU Study Abroad programs and internships abroad. As the Fulbright Program Advisor, she offers guidance and support to FIU students applying to the Fulbright US Student Program.Susy holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Science in Education, both from the University of Miami. She has years of experience in higher education, particularly with international students. She has traveled throughout the Americas and Europe and participated in a mission trip to Australia. She enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, and singing.
Caitlin Dooley, Academic Advisor
As the academic advisor in the office, Caitlin assists International Student Exchange and FIU Approved program participants with course approval, grade and credit conversion, and posting of study abroad academic credit. Prior to joining the Office of Study Abroad at FIU, Caitlin was a Study Abroad Advisor in the International Business Flagship Program at the University of North Florida. Since 2014, Caitlin has served on the board of the Florida Association of International Educators as the Study Abroad Coordinator.
Caitlin earned dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in International Affairs and Applied Economics from Florida State University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of North Florida. Caitlin has traveled to various countries in Europe, South America, and Asia through study abroad, personal exploration, and professional travel.
Alexi Berry, Program Coordinator
Alexi assists students in selecting the study abroad program that best meets their personal and academic goals. She helps guide them through the application process, working closely with the department’s Academic Advisor, Caitlin Dooley. Alexi principally supports students interested in International Student Exchange and FIU Approved programs, and students applying for the Gilman Scholarship. Before joining the Office of Study Abroad team at FIU, she served as an AmeriCorps VISTA at an Educational non-profit and later earned her Masters in International Education at the University of Alcalá in Spain. In her free time, Alexi enjoys reading, running, and traveling.
Enna Alcaine, Budget Coordinator
Enna monitors and manages all departmental budgets and also coordinates the recruitment efforts for the Genoa study abroad programs. She is responsible for large events, such as the Study Abroad Fairs and Welcome Back Reception, preparing the corresponding promotional materials. She also handles all office transactions and activities, providing information to students visiting or calling the office. Finally, she enrolls study abroad students in the health insurance plan and in the State Department registration. Enna enjoys traveling and has visited Europe several times. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in International Marketing and Finance from the University of Miami.
Ariana Argüello, Program Coordinator
Ariana works primarily with students doing international internships and international services. She also manages our website and social media. Ariana holds a bachelor in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and a minor in Spanish and Economics from FIU, and is currently pursuing a law degree at FIU. While studying business, she participated in the International Student Exchange to France. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
