Senior Director ISSS/Interim Director, OEA
Alejandra Parra is the Senior Director of the Office of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) and the Interim Director for the Office of Education Abroad (OEA) . In her role, she oversees the operations of the ISSS and OEA at the Modesto Maidique and Biscayne Bay campuses; and she is an integral member of the FIU team that promotes and supports the university’s continuous efforts for comprehensive internationalization. Dr. Parra has been in the field of international education for over thirty years. Prior to joining the FIU ISSS, she held leadership positions at Nova Southeastern University (NSU), first as Assistant Director of the International Career Development Center at the Fischler College of Education, Associate Dean for International Affairs, and Associate Director for the Office of International Affairs.
Dr. Parra earned a B.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language and also in Translation and Interpretation from the Córdoba National University in Córdoba, Argentina; an M.A. in Teaching English as a Second or Other Language (TESOL) from the Monterey Institute of International Studies, CA; and an Ed.D. in Instructional Technology and Distance Education from Nova Southeastern University with dissertation work that focused on international cooperation in higher education. As an active member of international organizations, Dr. Parra has served as NAFSA Academy Coach, and she currently holds the position of Chair for the Florida Association of International Educators. Her hands-on experience with inbound and outbound mobility and direct participation in academic programs, program development and international education initiatives give Dr. Parra critical leadership skills needed as we broaden and deepen our campus internationalization efforts.
Susy Gómez, Associate Director
Susy works primarily with FIU faculty members who lead study abroad programs, facilitating the program proposal process, recruitment and enrollment, and risk management. She also works with students going on FIU Education Abroad programs and represents the Office of Education Abroad across campus. As the Fulbright Program Advisor, she offers guidance and support to FIU students applying to the Fulbright U.S. Student Program and coordinates the campus review process. Susy holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Science in Education, both from the University of Miami, and she is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Higher Education. She has years of experience in higher education, particularly with international education and prestigious awards. She has traveled throughout the Americas and Europe and participated in a mission trip to Australia. She enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, and singing.
Enna Alcaine, Budget Coordinator
Enna monitors and manages all departmental budgets and also coordinates the recruitment efforts for the Genoa study abroad programs. She is responsible for large events, such as the Education Abroad Fairs and Welcome Back Reception, preparing the corresponding promotional materials. She also handles all office transactions and activities, providing information to students visiting or calling the office. Finally, she enrolls study abroad students in the health insurance plan and in the State Department registration. Enna enjoys traveling and has visited Europe several times. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in International Marketing and Finance from the University of Miami.
Ariana Argüello, Program Manager
Ariana works primarily with students doing international internships and international services. She also manages our website and social media. Ariana holds a bachelor in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and a minor in Spanish and Economics from FIU. She also holds a Juris Doctorate from FIU. While studying business, she participated in the International Student Exchange to France. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
Corey Ryan, Academic Adviser
Corey works primarily with outgoing FIU students interested in studying abroad through our International Student Exchange (ISE) program and is also the main advisor for the Gilman and Boren Scholarships. Corey is a Miami native who attended FIU for both his undergraduate and graduate studies, graduating from the Honors College and receiving his Bachelor of Arts in English and Master of Arts in Linguistics. During college, he studied abroad for a summer in France and post-graduation worked as the Honors College European Education Abroad Program Assistant for four summers in Italy, Spain, and France. He enjoys traveling, writing, rock climbing, spending time with friends and family, and generally any activity that requires him to be outside.
